POV film, Yearning, to be screened this Thursday at Open Roof Films!

Openroof_Panorama3a

We are thrilled to announce that Yearning, a film made by students during our Filmmaking Program in 2008, will be screened this Thursday at Open Roof Films, the outdoor summer experience everyone is talking about.

Yearning features Rudyard, a man who is overwhelmed by the pressure to meet his commitments and is ready to give up. He is pulled back from the edge of desperation by a young boy who unexpectedly shows him that he is not alone. A story of faith and family, Yearning is an emotional film that reminds us that sometimes the meaning in our own lives can only be found in the lives of others.

POV's Filmmaking Program is an intense, four month program where film industry professionals mentor aspiring young filmmakers on the craft of filmmaking. Our students are mature youth who are talented and driven, in need of a break. Yearning is an example of what is possible when the right tools and support are made available to youth who would otherwise not have access to it.

Open Roof Films is an evening more than just film - it's an evening with friends. Join the party and watch award-nominated independent films under the stars. Also in the line up for THURSDAY AUGUST 19th, Open Roof Films is showing 2010 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize nominated feature, Lovers of Hate; a performance by Toronto-based indie rockers, Kulas; a conversation with Ruba Nadda (Cairo Time) with the inside scoop of the film industry; and an exclusive after-party.

Doors open at 7:30

Tickets are $15 per person, with profits going to support the independent film community in Toronto.

Where: Amsterdam Brewery at 21 Bathurst Street .
