JOB POSTING: POV is looking for a Program Director

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Part time,  4 months, Averaging 10hrs a week

Contact Tania for remuneration

POV is looking for an experienced filmmaker/instructor for the position of Program Director for its upcoming Filmmaking Program. The ideal candidate will be a practicing filmmaker with teaching experience. We are looking for an individual that relishes problem solving and can keep a positive disposition while ensuring expectations from all sides are met, even exceeded. The program is challenging yet extremely rewarding.

The Filmmaking Program exposes ten young adults, aged 19-24, to all aspects of filmmaking. Over 14 weeks, professional mentors lead all-day workshops, helping the students to collectively produce a short film. By the end of the program, students have learned the technical, business and social skills needed for many departments in film and media, and have an inkling of where their interest is best applied.

The Program Director is responsible for the successful delivery of the program, measured by the
completion of the films produced, the retention of students throughout the program, and a basic level of skill development and relationship building for all participants.

The Program Director supervises a small staff and a large volunteer mentor pool for the workshops of the program. While the program has a sizeable mentor database, having one’s own network of film industry professionals to drawn upon is an asset.

Other duties include:
• Creating workshops using the existing POV curriculum, sourcing all required gear and mentors

for each session, and delivering those sessions – instructing some, hosting others.

• Management of the budget for the program (invoicing, petty cash, requisitions);

• Filing bi-weekly reports for the Executive Director;

• Being available to participants throughout the program

Please submit resume via email or send to:

A Very Ambitious Project

You may have heard that PEPSI is giving away money to non-profits just like POV. We have submitted a project idea but we will only get the funding if we get enough votes. Yes, its a competition and we need your help to win.

We recently met two terrific youth-led organizations in Toronto: Schools Without Borders and Manifesto Community Projects. We've agreed to work together on a monster sized project - that is, if we're lucky enough to get a Pepsi grant to do it.

Of course, we want to make a movie. But this time, we want to make a feature length documentary, with POV alumni and members from SWB behind the camera(s). Established filmmakers will mentor throughout the process and push participants to make the highest quality product possible. Like our past projects, its all about hands-on learning and professional mentoring.

And what will this feature documentary be about? THIS:

MANIFESTO 09 Recap from themanifesto.ca on Vimeo.

If we get the Pepsi grant,  the documentary will mix behind-the-scenes footage of organizing the festival, with footage of the festival itself. Ultimately, this project - just like the festival and the also the documentary - will celebrate youth culture and the a limitless potential young people have when they get creative and collaborate.

Voting opens on July 1st. We will need VOTES!
