POV is a registered charity dedicated to helping at-risk youth gain the skills and experience needed to secure employment in film, television, and commercial production.
POV offers opportunities to at-risk youth, ages 19-24, who have a desire to work in the industry yet who do not have the work experience, financial capability or social connections needed to pursue their career. We aim to reach youth who have talent and drive but do not have an entry point to the industry.
We offer three programs:
1) The Filmmaking Program
2) The Internship Program
3) The Alumni Working Group
The Filmmaking Program exposes ten young adults aged 19-24, to all aspects of filmmaking. Over 13 weeks, professional mentors lead all-day workshops, helping the students to collectively produce two short films. By the end of the program, students have learned the technical, business
and social skills needed for many departments
in film and media, and have an inkling of where their interest is best applied.
Upon completion of the Filmmaking Program, promising students enter our Internship Program where they are given a four-month, paid internship. These internships allow our students to get a foothold in the industry, to gain experience and cultivate relationships on their own merit.
The Alumni Working Group allows all graduates of our Filmmaking Program to develop their own projects with the support of their peers and the POV network. Like the Filmmaking Program, The Alumni Working Group uses professional mentors to guide the development of the group's productions, but from a far more removed position. It is a self-directed program: for youth by youth. It is a program that transitions our alumni from students to working filmmakers.
